Taber kicks off Kraft Hockeyville celebrations Thursday during Cornfest

Taber’s Kraft Hockeyville celebration gets underway on Thursday as the community officially receives its winner banner and cheque, with an NHL legend also set to make an appearance during Cornfest.

The community will officially receive its Kraft Hockeyville cheque and winner banner during the Cornfest grand opening ceremony, marking the first major celebration since Taber was named Kraft Hockeyville 2026.

Making an appearance Thursday evening is four-time Stanley Cup champion and former Edmonton Oilers captain and head coach Craig MacTavish.

MacTavish will be at the Kraft Hockeyville tent from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for photos and autographs.

The tent will be located at the southwest corner of the Administration Building.

It will remain open throughout Cornfest, with activities including cornhole, a hockey accuracy shooter game, colouring activities and sticker giveaways.

MacTavish’s appearance is Thursday only.

The celebration will also feature the Kraft Peanut Butter Bear mascots, who will make their way around Cornfest throughout the festivities.

Taber was named Kraft Hockeyville 2026 following a community-wide campaign that rallied residents around the town’s passion for hockey.

The win gives Taber $250,000 toward arena upgrades and the chance to host an NHL pre-season game.

Organizers are encouraging residents to take part in the Cornfest festivities and celebrate the community effort that brought the Hockeyville title to Taber.
