The Medicine Hat Mavericks dropped an 11-1 decision to the Dawgs in Okotoks on Wednesday night.

In the top of the third inning, the Mavs would get on the board first. Johnny Vulcano led off with a double and came in to score on a Josh Stark single.

The early 1-0 Mavs lead wouldn’t last long. In the bottom half of the third inning, the Dawgs would score eight runs.

Mavs starter Diego Centella would walk the first batter of the inning before giving up a pair of singles, which scored one to tie things up.

A fielding error would then give the Dawgs a 2-1 lead, before a Cal Gates single would drive in two more.

Another single and a walk given up would load the bases and bring Centella’s night to an end.

With Miguel De Jesus now on the mound for the Mavs, he would walk the next batter to allow a run. A sacrifice fly would score another. Matt Evans would hit a double to score two more to make it 8-1 Dawgs.

Landon Kauffman would extend the Dawgs’ lead to 9-1 with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Dawgs would get two more in the seventh inning. First, with a leadoff solo home run from Eric Machej, then later in the inning, Ricky Sanchez would hit a single to drive in a run.

The game was completed in the eighth inning.

Centella took the loss for the Mavericks. Tyson Willis earned the win for the Dawgs, giving up a single run and six hits through six innings.

Next up for the Mavericks is a pair of games they host against the Saskatoon Berries on Thursday and Friday at 6:45 p.m., each night.

It will be the fourth meeting of the season between the two teams. The Berries have won the previous three games.
