Amber Alert cancelled in Alberta, B.C. for six-year-old boy who remains missing

Mounties said the boy was spotted Wednesday morning in Fort St. John, B.C., and that there were several sightings of him in the province.

The search was expanded to all of B.C. and into much of the Northwest Territories and the Yukon.

Alberta RCMP said their alert was cancelled as “there’s no reasonable expectation the public, in Alberta, will be able to action the instructions in the alert.”

They did not provide details or answer phone calls seeking clarification.

B.C. RCMP cancelled their alert later in the day but did not provide an explanation or an update.

They did not answer a phone call, nor did they respond immediately to an email request for clarification.

Lanakai is described as white, with a slight build, light brown hair, and brown eyes.

Police were initially looking for a black 2015 Toyota Tundra, but it was found by officers.

RCMP said it’s believed the couple changed vehicles and are driving a 2006 red Ford F350, with Alberta licence plate CXW 8820.

They said people with information should call 911 and not approach the vehicle or suspects.
