Thirty-seven organizations across Southeastern Alberta are receiving $1,125,731.47 in Community Grants from the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta (CFSEA) to support initiatives that strengthen communities, improve quality of life, and respond to local needs throughout the region.

Community Grants are awarded through a competitive application process guided by CFSEA’s Vital Signs priorities, including Connection and Belonging, Work and Economy, and Basic Needs such as food, health and housing, with applications reviewed by a volunteer committee that considers community impact, local needs and available funding.

The Community Foundation awards Community Grants twice a year, with the latest funding representing its spring cycle.

The spring funding includes $20,000 for the Medicine Hat & District Food Bank’s Brown Bag Lunch Program, $25,000 for the Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund’s Teen Dignity & Youth Inclusion Initiative, and $24,000 for Roots of Empathy programming in schools across Southeastern Alberta.

Other Medicine Hat-area recipients include the Medicine Hat Public Library, McMan Youth, Family and Community Services, Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta, Sagesse Domestic Violence Prevention Society, the Good Samaritan Society, SafeLink Alberta, YMCA of Southeastern Alberta Association, and several other local organizations.

In Cypress County, funding will support projects including the Dunmore Community Association’s multigenerational programming with a $4,000 grant, Longfellow Community Centre’s Stitched with Love project receiving $4,961, the Cypress County Library Board’s Working Together – Library – Community Connection initiative with $10,000, Elkwater Park Golf Course’s utility vehicle purchase supported by $5,000, and Prairie Gleaners Society’s bag program receiving $3,539.

Grants Committee chair Jesse Prince says the funding supports organizations responding directly to community needs and highlights the thoughtful and creative work taking place across Southeastern Alberta.

The grants will support a range of projects aimed at helping local organizations deliver programs and services that foster stronger, more connected communities.

Executive director of the foundation, Niki Gray, said the funding reflects the impact of combining local generosity with community knowledge to create opportunities, strengthen connections and improve quality of life.

Supported through CFSEA’s Community Fund, the grants provide flexible funding for the region’s most pressing needs.

CFSEA also awarded two Community Impact Awards, providing $35,000 each to the Consort & District Medical Centre Society for its From Crisis to Capacity: Rural Healthcare Access, Education, & Workforce Pathways project and the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta for its Work Ready: Customer Service Essentials program.
