The City of Medicine Hat has a new city clerk.

A spokesperson from the City says Amanda Peterson began her role with the City on June 3.

The spokesperson adds that they are pleased to have her on board to support the organization in this important role.

Peterson recently worked for Lac La Biche County and before that had been with the City of Brooks for over 17 years, according to her LinkedIn profile.

While in Brooks, she had served a variety of roles. Those included were the chief administrative officer in a deputy and acting capacity, a city clerk and as an executive assistant.

Peterson was with the City of Brooks from October 2007 to February 2025. She worked with Lac La Biche County from August 2025 to May 2026.

She replaces former city clerk Tarolyn Aaserud. Aaserud was last observed at a council meeting in the role of city clerk on Feb. 2, 2026. She had taken on the role in September 2024.

Aaserud had temporarily filled the city manager job on an interim basis when Ann Mitchell was removed from the position on July 28, 2025.

Joseph Hutter was appointed as interim city manager at a meeting on Jan. 5, 2026, and Aaserud resumed her position as city clerk.

A permanent replacement for former city manager Mitchell has not yet been found.
