Primary Care Alberta reminds public of sun safety
In recognition of Melanoma Awareness Month, Primary Care Alberta is reminding Albertans of the importance of protecting themselves from the sun, whether working or playing outside.
Officials say that melanoma is not only the most serious type of skin cancer but the fifth most diagnosed type of cancer in Alberta. Melanoma is a type of cancer where skin cells grow out of control, according to Primary Care Alberta.
In addition, 65 per cent of melanoma cases are linked to UVR from the sun and tanning beds.
PCA explained that Melanoma can spread quickly to other parts of the body, but is often curable if detected early. Melanoma typically shows up as a new spot or skin growth.
