Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services responded to multiple fires in the city on Monday.

The first fire started in the morning with a brush fire at Strathcona Island Park near Athletic Park.

In the afternoon at about 3:30 p.m., firefighters attended a vehicle fire at a property in the Southwest Hill area across from École Connaught School.

Crews were able to keep the fire from damaging the home on Ninth Street Southwest.

However, a representative from the fire department says there was heat damage to an RV parked nearby, and a neighbour’s truck had paint damage and windows smashed out as a result of the blaze.

At about 5:53 p.m. on Monday, firefighting crews attended a grass fire on a hill at Kin Coulee Park, south of Medicine Hat College.

Several units attended as the fire burned up the hillside, and police blocked off entry to the park and evacuated it while crews attended to the blaze.

Baseball players were seen outside of Kin Coulee Park still in uniform, as multiple games were taking place at the time.

Before returning to the station, firefighters were deployed to a grass fire at Saratoga Park on Monday at about 7:30 p.m.

A representative from the fire department suspects the grass fires started from human carelessness; however, they are under investigation.

The vehicle fire isn’t considered suspicious and remains under investigation.
