Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors is hosting a pair of drop-in information sessions on the Highway 3 twinning between Whitla and Medicine Hat this week.

The first open house is on Monday at Medicine Hat College’s Big Eagle Room. The second is on Tuesday at the Seven Persons Community Hall. Both are scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Detailed design work on the project is anticipated to be completed by late 2026, followed by regulatory approvals.

In February, the provincial government announced its investment of $152 million over three years in Budget 2026 to continue the twinning work on the 36 km section of the highway.

A spokesman with the Alberta Transportation Minister said earlier this month that a construction tender is expected in late 2027, pending the progress on right-of-way and regulatory approvals.

Additional information is available on the government’s project webpage, where an online survey available until May 12.
