City of Medicine Hat’s Litter Blitz underway

Mar 26, 2026 | 10:23 AM

The City of Medicine Hat’s annual Litter Blitz campaign is now underway until April 18.

A campaign that encourages residents to join the City in its spring cleanup of trash from parks and public green spaces.

“Every year, residents share an exciting variety of motives behind why they participate in the Litter Blitz – whether it’s a love of their neighborhood park, the joy of keeping the community litter-free, enjoying a family outing, or team-building with a sports team, business, organization, and so many more,” City of Medicine Hat parks technician Jeff Quinlan said in a statement.

“It’s great to see so many Hatters share in our passion for being good environmental stewards, and we look forward to once again joining forces on this annual collaboration.”

Bags, gloves and cleanup supplies are available at no cost at several locations during the campaign.

Those include the Parks and Recreation office at 88 Kipling Street, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Police Point Park Nature Centre, Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and at the Big Marble Go Centre during regular facility hours.

To participate, choose any park or green space and fill up trash bags with litter.

Once they’re full, you can call or email the Parks team during business hours to inform them of the location of the bags that need to be picked up.

Litter Blitz participants can share a photo of themselves and others picking up litter around the community for a chance to win a prize by tagging the City on Facebook or Instagram.

A free barbecue will be hosted by the City’s Parks and Recreation department, with support from HAT Smart, at the conclusion of the Litter Blitz.

The barbecue will be part of the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program’s (MHIP) Earth Day event in Police Point Park.

The barbecue is a gesture to recognize the hard work and community contributions of this year’s Litter Blitz participants.

The MHIP’s Earth Day event is Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The appreciation barbecue begins at 1:30 p.m. and will run until 3:30 p.m., or while supplies last.
