The suspect, attempting to escape arrest, jumped into the South Saskatchewan River.

The officer entered the water and was able to bring the suspect safely back to shore.

A 50-year-old Medicine Hat man faces charges of assault, assault by choking, resisting arrest, and unlawful confinement.

He was remanded into custody to appear in court on Thursday.
