Provincial Hockey Championships underway, Medicine Hat Wildcats host in Irvine

Medicine Hat Minor Hockey’s Female Wildcats U13 teams are both competing in Provincials from Thursday through Sunday.

The U13 A Wildcats team went undefeated in the regular season and playoffs with 20 wins and three ties.

They are hosting provincials in Irvine. In their first game, they tied 1-1 against the GHC Chaos from Calgary on Thursday morning. Remaining undefeated on the season. Their next game is Friday at 11:30 a.m. against the Lloydminster 581. A full tournament schedule can be found here.

The U13 B Wildcats are in Vermilion for provincials Friday through Sunday. The schedule can be found here.

The Irvine Bulldogs are competing at the U18 B Female Provincials from Thursday through Sunday in Fairview. The schedule can be found here.

Three male teams from the area are also competing in Provincial Championships this weekend, representing the Central Alberta Hockey League from Thursday to Sunday.

The Medicine Hat Hounds are at the U13 A Provincials in Red Deer. A full schedule can be found here.

At the U15 B Provincials in Cold Lake are the Brooks Junior Bandits. A full schedule can be found here.

A pair of Southern Alberta teams compete in the U11 AA provincials hosted in Brooks from March 26 to 29. The host Brooks Junior Bandits are joined by the Taber Golden Suns, who won the Plains Division playoffs. The schedule can be found here.

The U18 A Provincials are in Blackfalds from March 26 to 29. The Duchess Storm are representing the Central Alberta Hockey League. You can follow along here.

The Medicine Hat Cubs will need to win another game in the HJHL Finals best-of-five series with the Red Deer Vipers to qualify for Junior B Provincials in Lloydminster from April 1 to 5.

The South East U17 AAA Tigers are in the second round of the AEHL playoffs after upsetting the South’s top seed, Red Deer North Star Chiefs, with two straight wins.

They are in tough against the Calgary North Stars in the second round of the playoffs after losing game one 3-1 on Wednesday in Calgary.

The Tigers would need to win the next two games to qualify for the five-team Provincial Championship tournament in Spruce Grove from April 2 to 5.

Game two is at the Hockey Hounds Rec Centre on Saturday at 5 p.m.
