Public Survey on Policing and Community Safety launched by Medicine Hat Police Commission

Mar 17, 2026 | 9:43 AM

The Medicine Hat Police Commission is gathering community input on perceptions of policing and community safety in the community and launched a month-long public survey on March 17.

Commission Chair Paul Carolan says the goal is a better understanding and response to community concerns about public safety in the city.

“The Commission will use the results to support our work with the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) as we develop the Service’s strategic plan and outline objectives for the next business cycle,” Carolan said.

Strategic planning and market research firm Framework Partners Inc. is contracted to collect and analyze feedback independently.

Survey topics include road safety, the municipal enforcement section, criminal investigation, uniformed officers, policing as a whole, and the Medicine Hat Police Commission.

The Commission states that individual responses will be confidential and not shared with the MHPS except in a summarized form.

Residents will be selected randomly to participate through a telephone interview or an online survey as part of the research.

The survey results will be compared to findings from previous surveys.

The Commission will share general results during an Open Police Commission meeting on June 17, 2026.
