Medicine Hat remains one of the most affordable cities to rent

Medicine Hat is the fourth most affordable place to rent according to a national ranking of 60 cities by rentals.ca.

The average cost in Medicine Hat was $1,364, up 1.9 per cent from a month ago and 2.2 per cent from a year ago.

Five Alberta communities were ranked in the top nine for affordability, with Lloydminster and Fort McMurray listed as more affordable for rent than Medicine Hat, with Lethbridge and Red Deer slightly more expensive.

Communities in the Toronto and Vancouver metro made up 13 of the top 15 most expensive rental markets.

Airdrie ranked as the most expensive average rental cost in Alberta at $1,914.

The average rental ask in Canada fell to $2,030 in February, down 2.8 per cent year-over-year to a 33-month low.

The report shows that national rents have declined on an annual basis for 17 straight months.
