New festival and event application process launched by City of Medicine Hat

The City of Medicine Hat has introduced a new festival and event application process, based on feedback from event organizers.

The City states that the new process is designed to make planning and hosting new and returning events easier, clearer, and more efficient for organizers.

Event organizers who worked through the previous application process over the past several years shared with the City that the process was hard to navigate, with limited support, disorganized communication, and unclear next steps.

The three key improvements to the event application process, according to the City, are a more streamlined experience, improved communication and transparency, and dedicated event liaisons.

This leads to a more coordinated, transparent, and supportive approach, according to the City.

The new application system consolidates multiple steps into a single application process, enabling applicants to move smoothly through review, approval, and permitting.

The City states that applicants can expect clearer timelines, consistent updates, and stronger visibility into the stage their application is at in the review process.

Dedicated event liaisons will be the primary point of contact to support organizers and help navigate requirements, ensuring that each event receives guidance from start to finish.

The liaisons will also help coordinate communication across City departments.

The level of liaison involvement may vary based on the scale of the event.

“Medicine Hat’s festivals and events are a cornerstone of community life, adding vibrancy and strengthening the local economy in the city,” City of Medicine Hat Manager of Recreation Scott Richter said.

“They create shared experiences, attract visitors, and help shape the memories that define our city,” he added.

“By modernizing the application process and strengthening support for organizers, the City is investing in a future where events can continue to grow, innovate, and bring people together.”

The city encourages organizers looking to renew a successful event or bring a new idea to life to visit the City’s Festival and Event Planning webpage.
