The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society (MHWSS) continues to receive strong financial support from Medicine Hat and the surrounding area as part of the capital campaign to renovate and expand the Phoenix Safe House Emergency Shelter.

On Thursday evening, the MHWSS shared a post to social media highlighting a $100,000 donation from Murray Chevrolet Cadillac.

The Phoenix Safe House Emergency Shelter officially reopened in Sept. 2025 following renovations.

The budget for the capital project was $8.5 million. MHWSS’s executive director, Natasha Carvalho, said $2 million was set aside as an organization, with $6.5 million needed to raise.

In Sept. 2025, she stated they still had about $2 million left to pay it all off.

The MHWSS’s social media post extended gratitude to Murray Chevrolet Cadillac Medicine Hat for their generous donation during the 100th Anniversary of the Murray Auto Group.

“We are endlessly grateful for your continued support. Thank you for helping us continue to grow hope in our community,” read the rest of the post.

The MHWSS celebrated an anniversary of their own on Feb. 12, marking 46 years since it was incorporated in 1980.

The 12th annual Bread & Roses Gala in support of the MHWSS is on Saturday, March 7, at the Medicine Hat Lodge.

An event that the MHWSS shared was already nearly sold out in early February.

Tables and individual tickets can be purchased online, with limited availability for those looking to attend.
