Localized damage and power outages in Medicine Hat caused by winter storm

Dec 17, 2025 | 5:25 PM

An ongoing winter storm combined with high winds has caused localized damage and power outages, with impacts expected to continue through the evening.

The city of Medicine Hat is urging residents to stay indoors and avoid travel if possible, as some roads have been blocked by downed trees, while blowing debris is creating hazardous conditions.

The city said excessive wind speeds have made it unsafe for electricity crews to carry out restoration work.

Crews are currently on site at affected locations and are standing by to begin repairs once conditions improve and it is safe to do so.
