National triumphs give Medicine Hat’s U16 SEAVC girls volleyball team a bright future

The U16 South East Alberta Volleyball Club Rattlers Gold team has been recognized in many ways for their recent success.

The Medicine Hat club team has won the U16 Girls Volleyball Canada Youth National Championship in Edmonton this Spring.

Jessa Krauss, who played for SEAVC for three years, said she’s beyond proud of how the team came together.

“We went in there knowing that we were gonna be one of the top contenders for Nationals just because we knew who we are, and we were confident, and we believed in each other,” Krauss said.

“Other than just having a bunch of girls playing the sport together, we had a family, and I think that’s what I’m most proud of for our team.”

“There were teams from all over Canada, and I believe there were around 300 teams there,” she added.

Krauss said representing Medicine Hat as her hometown is one of the best opportunities someone can ask for.

“I think of what our team has brought to the town of Medicine Hat for volleyball and all the little girls and boys that look up to us now that we have won such a big accomplishment,” Krauss said.

Chloe Kube, the co-captain of SEAVC, was the MVP of the national championship tournament in Edmonton. She said being awarded MVP was unexpected but super exciting.

“I watched the girl who got MVP the year before, and I was just absolutely blown away by her, and I just idolized her, and then it’s just kind of surreal for the following year that it was me,” Kube said.

Kube is committed to Team Buffalo, New York, with a full-ride scholarship in Division one, NCAA.

Kube said she is grateful for the opportunity.

“It kind of shows how my hard work has paid off, because it’s been a goal of mine for a really long time, and I just feel like really honored,” Kube said.

Five SEAVC players represented Alberta at the Canada Cup, playing for Team Alberta Black and Team Alberta Blue in Orangeville, Ontario. Team Alberta Black won the National championship with four SEAVC players on that team.

The SEAVC athletes who participated in the Canada Cup were Georgia Potter, Anna Hodgkinson, Cameron Carlson, Paisley Retzler, and Chloe Kube.

The coach of SEAVC, Lori Kube, was awarded Performance Coach for Ladies of the Year.

She said winning the award was an honor, but by no means was she expecting it.

“That’s never the end game for me. My end game is to put a team together of like-minded girls with a work ethic that supports each other,” Lori said.

Lori said she is proud to be a part of the team’s circle.

“I will help guide and coach, so to speak, but they’re the girls that do the work. It’s their accomplishment, they did the work,” Lori said.

Lori will be the head coach of SEAVC U17 gold for the upcoming season.
