International travellers between Canada and the U.S. will see reduced hours for the next several months at one land border crossing in southern Alberta, with another closed for the season.

The annual reduction of hours takes place on Oct.1 at the Wild Horse border crossing, the provinces most eastern crossing. It connects Highway 41 to Montana at Highway 232, which leads to Havre.

The crossing operates seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Oct.1 until May 14.

From May 15 to Sept. 30 each year, it operates from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with commercial traffic Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. excluding holidays.

The Chief Mountain border crossing, the provinces most western crossing only operates from May to September, due to its high elevation and harsh winters.

It will close for the season at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, and will reopen on May 14, 2026.

Chief Mountain is located on Highway 6 just east of Waterton Lakes National Park. After continuing south along Highway 17 in Montana, it connects to Highway 89 north of Babb.

Drivers can also access Highway 89 by taking the Carway border crossing, which is open year-round.

Other land borders crossings in southern Alberta include Coutts, Del Bonita, and Aden.

Coutts is the only 24-hour land border crossing in the province.
