A collaboration has formed aimed at bolstering mental health support for youth in the Medicine Hat area.

The Stigma-Free Mental Health Society has announced a new community partnership with Medicine Hat Family Service.

The groups said they recognize the importance of collective action, and are committed to working together to enhance mental health resources.

The Stigma-Free Mental Health Society has focused on mental health advocacy since 2010, with programming that cater to schools and rural communities.

Their initiatives, including the Stigma-Free School Program and the Rural Minds Matter Campaign, reaching thousands across Canada, helping equipping people with the tools and resilience needed to navigate their mental health journeys.

Medicine Hat Family Service is dedication to fostering strong, supportive families, offers a variety of events and programs designed to enrich community well-being.

By partnering, the organizations aim to broaden their impact and strengthen the community’s mental health support network.

President of SFMHS Andrea Paquette said with the partnership they can more effectively support youth by breaking down barriers.

“Ensuring they have access to the resources they need,” Paquette said.

“Together, we create a community where mental health is openly discussed and supported.”

Executive Director of Medicine Hat Family Service’s Celina Symmonds said collaborating with SFMHS allows them to expand their reach.

“Providing comprehensive support for mental health in Medicine Hat,” Symmonds said.

“We believe in working side by side to uplift our community and ensure every child and family has the opportunity to thrive.”

The group said the partnership underscores the critical nature of community organizations joining forces to address mental health challenges.

Both SFMHS and MH Family Service are inviting other local organizations and community members to join the collaborative effort.
