Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat: September 26-28

It’s already the final weekend of the September and with Environment Canada’s forecast calls for mostly dry and windy conditions.

Friday will see a mix of sun and cloud with a northwest wind at 40 km/h gusting up to 60 km/h with a high of 21 C.

The evening is expected to be clear with a winds gusting up to 40 km/h before becoming light with a low of 8 C.

Saturday is set to see a mix of sun and cloud with wind up to 40 km/hr and a high of 26 C. Cloudy period in the evening with a low of 10 C.

Sunday is forecast to be sunny with a high of 21 C, and an evening low of 10 C.

🤠 Western Music & Cowboy Poetry Event

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Cowboy Poetry Foundation presents a Western Music & Cowboy Poetry event in Medicine Hat over the weekend.

Friday at 1 p.m. homegrown performers will be at Meadowlark Village 119 1600 Strachan Rd. SE.

Then at 7 p.m. an open mic will be held at the Moose Lodge located at 901 8th Street SW with free admission.

Saturday a music and poetry show begins at noon in the Medicine Hat College’s Eresman Theatre with tickets costing $10, with a chuckwagon supper served at 5 p.m. with a $20 cost and advanced reservations required.

The featured performance get underway at the college theatre at 7 p.m. with $25 tickets to attend. Performers include Charlie and Lonnie Ewing, and Hugh McLennan and Spirit of the West Band.

🏈 High School Football

FRIDAY

High School football will take place at the Methanex Bowl in Medicine Hat on Friday night.

The McCoy Colts host the Brooks Buffaloes in the early game at 5 p.m.

Following, the Medicine Hat Hawks host the Foothills Falcons at 7:30 p.m.

🏀 Rattlers Basketball

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s basketball team have a pair of exhibition games at home against the defending ACAC champion Briercrest College Clippers out of Caronport, Sask.

This will be the first action for the Rattlers men’s basketball team this season.

Friday’s game at the Snake Pit starts at 6 p.m. and Saturday is at 1 p.m.

📽 Movie at the Monarch Theatre

FRIDAY

Movies are back at the Monarch Theatre with The Princess Bride showing Friday night.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. showing of the 1987 film featuring Carl Elwes, Robin Wright, Billy Crystal, Fred Savage and Andre the Giant.

Tickets at $5.

🏒 Cubs Hockey

FRIDAY AND SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Cubs have their home opener on Friday night at Kinplex 1 Arena.

They will host the Cannex Cochrane Generals at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday will see another home game for the Cubs with the Airdrie Techmation Thunder in the city for a 3 p.m. game.

💬 Gas City Entertainment Expo

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

Medicine Hat’s first ever two-day comic convention takes place this weekend.

The Gas City Entertainment Expo will be at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Ground’s Pavillion Building.

Cosplay contests, games and competition, handcrafted merchandise, community and fandom fun, and a K-Pop Idol show are all part of the event.

It runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door with a $10 cost for adults, and kids 12 and under free.

🐇 Reading with Rabbits at Library

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Public Library hosts Reading with Rabbits on Saturday.

Celebrating International Rabbit Day, the library will have a special rabbit themed storytime in partnership with Bunny Run Rabbit Rescue.

After the stories, there is a chance to meet, pet, and learn all about real rabbits.

The event is for parents with children aged 4-6 and runs from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and requires pre-registration on the library website.

🐅 Tigers Hockey

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers, will be back at Co-op Place on Saturday night when they host the Saskatoon Blades at 7 p.m.

It will be their third game of the season, and second of the weekend, as they make the trip to Swift Current to take on the Broncos Friday night at 7 p.m.

Will Bryant will have the radio broadcasts on Wild 94.5 for both contest, joined by Lance Doll for home games.

The pre-game broadcasts start 15 minutes before puck drop for road games, and 30 minutes prior for home games.
