Medicine Hat woman charged with fraud and theft related to hockey team

Sep 23, 2025 | 9:29 PM

A woman who operated a youth hockey team in Medicine Hat is facing multiple charges after an investigation by the Medicine Hat Police Service.

Nola Besplug, 46, of Medicine Hat has been charged with both fraud and theft over $5,000, and possession of proceeds of crime.

Police said the charges stem from an investigation that was initiated in January 2025 after concerns were raised about funds collected for a youth hockey program.

The offences occurred between April 2024 and March 2025, according to police.

During this time Besplug was the Manager of the Southeast Selects hockey team.

Police said the youth hockey community was impacted with multiple victims coming forward from across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Montana.

Besplug is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Oct. 7, 2025.

As this matter is now before the courts, police will have no further details to released at this time.
