The Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Kelowna Rockets 8-4 to kick off the WHL Yukon Showcase on a winning note.

The Tigers saw all eight goals come from eight different goal scorers in the win.

Netminder Carter Casey stopped 27 of 31 shots he faced and looked steady throughout.

After an opening 20 minutes that saw the Tigers lead 3-2 through a frame, the Tigers exploded for four goals in the second to take a 7-3 lead into the third.

The two clubs would trade goals in the final frame, and the Cats would skate away with a comfortable 8-4 victory, remaining undefeated in the preseason.

Noah Davidson recorded one goal and two assists in the win and was named player of the game for the Medicine Hat Tigers.

It was the first preseason action for Davidson, who recorded six points in five games for Team USA at the Hlinka Gretzky Tournament in Czechia, and is shaping up to become a focal point of the Tigers’ offense this season.

Liam and Markus Ruck each found the back of the net for the Cats as they also drew in their first action of the preseason.

Game two of the WHL Yukon Showcase gets underway Saturday night at 8:15 p.m. MST.
