Medicine Hat Terry Fox Run hopes to double fundraising goal

Sep 13, 2025 | 4:30 PM

The 45th anniversary of Terry’s Marathon of Hope is this year and the annual run is set for this Sunday at Medicine Hat College.

The goal for Medicine Hat, set by the Terry Fox Run Foundation is $11,000 and by Thursday evening they had already eclipsed that goal with $17,000 raised.

The organizing chair for Medicine Hat Keith Walker said they are hoping to double the goal by Sunday morning.

“We have done so the last two years so hope we’re on a streak,” Walker said.

“That indicates 200 donations and we hope for around 150 people participating in the run/walk on Sunday,” he added.

“We encourage people to register and/or donate online at terryfox.org right up to the run or they can register with our friendly volunteers on site at the main entrance to the college, starting at 9:30.”

The race starts at 10:30 Sunday with a few speeches and a warmup ahead of time.

Food and water will be available on site.

The Sunrise Rotary Club and the Rotary Ignite Club organize the event for the community and this year the groups have the Rotary district governor Manon Mitchell attending from Calgary for the event.

The annual event raises money for cancer research.

Terry Fox shirts donated to the group by Dan Reynish will be on display during the event.
