Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat: Sept. 12-14

The second weekend of September is upon us, busy with activities in Medicine Hat.

Friday the forecast according to Environment Canada has a mix of sun and cloud and a 30 percent chance of showers by late afternoon with a thunderstorm risk. The high is looking to hit 27 C with the evening low dipping to 12 C and the risk of showers and thunderstorms remaining.

Saturday is expected to be dry with a mix of sun and cloud during the day, with a high of 28 C and an evening low of 12 C.

Sunday is sunny and a high of 29 C and the evening low remains consistent at 12 C.

Here is what’s on in Medicine Hat and area this weekend.

🎳 Beef Bowl

FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY

Hundreds of bowlers from across the country are at Panorama Lane this weekend for a 5-pin cash tournament call the Beef Bowl.

The third annual event with run Friday through Sunday at the bowling alley, with cows sitting out front of the building for people to interact with.

There will be meals onsite with beef served during the event.

10-pin lanes will remain open for the public to utilize.

🏁 Medicine Hat Dragstrip

FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association is hosting a full weekend of races at the Medicine Hat Drag Strip.

Friday racing begins at 7 p.m. with street legals, doors open at 5 p.m.

Saturday is the 1/4 mile drag racing all classes featuring the Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association (CMDRA), Volcano Jet Car, Heads Up Racing and Jr. Dragster Challenge. Time trials underway at 10 a.m. with gates open to spectators at 9 a.m.

Sunday had 1/4 mile drag racing all classes with the CMDRA finals and points race. The games open at 9 a.m. with time trials also underway then.

It’s $15 cash at the gate with 12 and under free both Friday and Sunday, with the game for those over 12 set at $20 on Saturday.

🏈 High School Football

FRIDAY

The Methanex Bowl will have a pair of high school football games Friday with the Crescent Heights Vikings hosting Brooks at 5 p.m., and the McCoy Colts hosting the Catholic Central Cougars out of Lethbridge at 7 p.m.

🕳 Bags at the Brewery

SATURDAY

The SouthEast Alberta Sundogs Cornhole League is hosting the Bags at the Brewery fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis at the Medicine Hat Brewing Company’s back area on Saturday.

A pancake breakfast for registered participants starts at 10 a.m.

Registration and check in will begin at 11 a.m. with a four game round robin and double elimination playoff.

The entry fee is $60 per team of two, with registration online.

There will be a beer tent on site, sausage on a bun will be provided, as well as draws and door prizes.

🚶Historic Walking Tours

SATURDAY

The final Historic First Street Southeast Tour of the season is set to go Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., starting outside of the Esplanade.

You will get a chance to walk the tree-lined boulevard of First Street Southeast, and discover the stories of Medicine Hat’s earliest settlers.

The tour will let you marvel at the well-preserved architecture and delve into the lives of the people who once called this area home.

🎨 Art In Motion 2025

SATURDAY

Art in Motion goes this Saturday on First Street Downtown in Medicine Hat from noon to 5 p.m.

It claims to be a fun-filled afternoon the kids will love!

You can start your adventure at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre, then stroll down First Street to explore a world of creativity.

Watch artists in action, make your own masterpieces at hands-on stations, and browse unique finds at the Open Air Art Market.

Enjoy live music, dance and cultural performances, and join in playful activities led by local community groups.

With something for every age, Art in Motion is a way to celebrate art, movement, and family fun—right in the heart of downtown!

🚒 Fire Station 3 Open House

SATURDAY

Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services is celebrating 125 years of service and is hosting an open house at Station 3 at the Medicine Hat Regional Airport.

There will be live demonstrations by firefighters, displays to learn more, station tours, and hands-on activities.

You can also meet Sparky the Fire Dog!

👨‍🚒 Dunmore Fire Station Open House

SATURDAY

Cypress County is hosting an open house at their Dunmore Fire Station on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2039 Bullshead Road.

The official ceremony is set for 11 a.m.

It will include live demonstrations, tours of the newly renovated fire hall, and kids activities.

A Barbeque lunch in support of HALO Air Ambulane runs from noon to 1 p.m.

🌷 Compost Day

SATURDAY

The third and final free compost day of 2025 happens this Saturday at 1453 Hutchinson Avenue SE from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You can bring a shovel and container and load up to 10 gallons of compost per household.

The City of Medicine Hat gave away a combined 29,000 kilograms of SureGrow compost at the first two events in the spring.

The SureGrow multi-purpose compost is an all-natural soil amendment produced by the city from materials in the annual organics collection program.

️⚽️ Rattlers Soccer

SATURDAY, SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers Soccer teams are at home this weekend for games.

The women host the University of Alberta Augustana Campus Viking for a game on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Then on Sunday the Highway 3 rivalry takes place with the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks in the city.

The woman play at noon, with the men hitting the field at 2:15 p.m.

All games are at the soccer field at Medicine Hat College.

🏃 45th Annual Terry Fox Run

SUNDAY

The Terry Fox Run in Medicine Hat is set to go at the Medicine Hat College on Sunday.

Registration is online through terryfox.org, or onsite at 9:30 a.m. the day of the event at the college entrance.

Racing begins at 10:30 a.m. with a few speeches and a warm up ahead of time, with food and water available.

Organizers said they hope to have around 150 people participating.

🏒 Medicine Hat Cubs

SUNDAY

The exhibition hockey season continues for the Medicine Hat Cubs when they host the Coaldale Copperheads at the Kinplex One Arena on Sunday at 3 p.m.
