HALO Day helps raise $11k for southeast Alberta air ambulance service

HALO Day was held on Thursday for HALO Air Ambulance and helped raise $11,000 for the southeast Alberta air ambulance service.

The annual call for financial support helps provide partial funding for HALO.

HALO CEO Paul Carolan said it was another great event.

“It’s one of the events we look the most forward to every year. Great opportunity to connect with with Pattison, My96 and Wild 94.5, and obviously with Adapt Mobility and NAPA Auto Parts,” Carolan said.

“But it’s also really cool because we get to share stories that we don’t normally get to share,” he added.

“I think people who are supporters, I think that’s really valuable to know that, the dollars that are being donated and sponsored are going to something that is truly impacting not only the people that we fly, but their friends and their family.”

Carolan said that it’s not a limited event.

“When HALO goes out and works with someone to make a difference in their survival, we’re talking about potentially about, you know, decades of birthdays and Christmas and Valentine’s Days and New Year’s Eves. It’s really an amazing gift that people give,” Carolan said.”

“Being able to explain that, directly from the people who have helped, I think is incredible.”

Carolan said their next big event is their golf tournament in August.

“Which is sold out already, actually, so we’re really excited about that. We have that down at Cottonwood Coulee and we take one of the helicopters and land it on one of the holes and you get your picture taken with it. It’s a wonderful thing. We love that partnership,” Carolan said.

“We have our gala coming back, Turf to Tarmac, in September. That’s in the hangar with the helicopter. That’s on Sept. 27 and that’s 70 per cent sold out already. We’re really excited to bring that one back,” he added.

“Our last signature event for the year is the Halo In-Flight For Your Life dinner and auction at the Seven Persons Community Hall, which is a brilliant, neighbor versus neighbor trip over each other, have a great old time, both live and silent auctions.”

HALO will also have a presence at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede during the annual fair parade.

HALO has been in operation since 2007 and receives less than half of their operating budget from the Government of Alberta, according to the organization.

It helps fill the funding gap through donations from individuals, businesses and municipalities.
