Big Marble Farms VP, after personal impact, supports EMS teddy bear program

Big Marble Farms has helped the Medicine Hat Health Foundation purchase more EMS Teddy bear for Alberta’s South Zone emergency response teams.

These simple gifts provide a quick source of comfort for young children in distress, the health foundation said in a social media post.

For Jonathan Schow, vice president of sales and marketing at Big Marble Farms, the EMS Bears project struck a personal chord.

Schow and his family had experienced a potential house fire.

His daughter was being dropped off at their house and discovered the smoke.

Emergency services responded to the incident.

After Schow arrived, he saw that the paramedic had a teddy bear in his hands.

A member of the Medicine Hat Health Foundation mentioned the EMS bears as a project that Big Marble could potentially get involved with.

At that point, Schow realized he’d already personally seen the impact of the teddy bears.

“At the end of the day, we all have young kids and we’re a family-oriented company,” Schow said.

“We thought if there’s any way we could help families and kids to navigate the emotional struggle they might experience from these situations, we wanted to be a part of that.”
