The Ridin’ for Kids Foundation capped off its annual fundraiser by raising thousands of dollars for Medicine Hat girl Myah Litowsky.

After six months of fundraising, the foundation raised $76,519.33 in support of Myah, who is battling multiple chronic and life-altering diseases.

Hundreds of community members gathered for a fundraiser event on June 14 that featured a poker run, silent and live auctions, donation jars and merchandise sales.

Foundation President Ivan Reimer said in a media release he was deeply moved by the turnout and generosity.

“This is a perfect example of how amazing this community is. So incredible to see all the support,” Reimer said.

Just months before her eighth birthday, Myah was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and Lupus.

As her symptoms worsened, further testing revealed she also suffers from Juvenile Dermatomyositis, Interstitial Lung Disease, Osteopenia and spinal fractures.

Myah now uses a wheelchair daily and travels to Calgary regularly for specialized care, transfusions and treatments — some of which are uninsured and extremely costly.

The funds raised will help cover travel, treatment, mobility aids and uninsured medications, according to the foundation.

“We want to thank all the donors, businesses, and individuals who have made this such a success,” said Promotions Director Heather McCaig.

“We could not have done this without all of them.”
