Tigers championship dreams, Spectrum: Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat

The busy summer season has arrived.

Temperatures will be warm all weekend. Friday will bring a high of 27 C, Saturday will peak at a toasty 33 C and Sunday will cool off a bit to 21 C, according to the Environment Canada forecast.

Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat.

🐅 Tigers championship

Sunday

The Medicine Hat Tigers are looking to cap off a historic season with a Memorial Cup win.

While the tournament is in Rimouski, Que., Tigers supporters are gathering at Co-op Place for a watch party on Sunday.

Nearly 4000 fans have already acquired free tickets for the event, according to the City of Medicine Hat.

Doors at Co-op Place will open at 3:30 p.m. ahead of the 5 p.m. puck drop.

The Monarch Theatre will also again be lighting up the big screen to cheer on the Tigers.

Admission is free, but the theatre encourages a donation that will go towards the Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub.

A charity barbeque by the Rotary Clubs of Medicine Hat will kick off the screening starting an hour before puck drop, at 4 p.m.

Tune in to live to the game on Wild 94.5. radio with play-by-play commentator Will Bryant.

🎉 Spectrum Festival

All weekend

The Spectrum Festival is on this weekend.

While details are spread across several posts on its social media, the festival appears to have many of the same elements as last year.

There will wrestling action, beach volleyball, food trucks and more at Kin Coulee Park Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

More information appears to only be available through its Facebook page.

The Silver Buckle is presenting a live music stage at the park Friday and Saturday its labelled as “Coulchella”.

🚒 Firefighters competition

Saturday and Sunday

Medicine Hat is hosting the Medicine Hat Firefit Championships, a regional event for Alberta.

There will be emergency vehicle displays and a junior firefit course.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and is free to enter.

It’s taking place at the carriage house on the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede grounds.

🗑 Litter picking party

Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is hosting a litter picking party along the South Saskatchewan River on Saturday.

The MHIP will meet participants at the Riverside parking lot in Police Point Park at 1 p.m., and clean up garbage until 2 p.m.

🏊‍♀️ Kinsmen free swim

Saturday

The monthly Kinsmen free swim at the Big Marble Go Centre is taking place this weekend.

There will be no charge to swim between 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the leisure centre.

🗨 Protests against UCP

Saturday

Weekly protests that started in front of Premier Danielle Smith’s constituency office have now moved to MLA Justin Wright’s office.

In previous months, the protestors have raised concerns over Smith’s handling of the AHS procurement scandal; her government’s deregulation of mountain coal mining; and the province’s approach to health careeducation and affordability.

The rally will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

🏊 Pools open

Friday

Echo Dale Swim Lake and Strathcona Pool open for the summer season on Friday, according to a post from the Big Marble Go Centre.
