Cypress County launches survey to establish business priorities

May 27, 2025 | 1:56 PM

Business owners in Cypress County will be polled in the coming weeks to collect data the municipality will use to develop an investment attraction strategy and help guide economic development.

Economic development officer Beth Cash said Tuesday the surveys, done at random through phone and email, should bring some clarity for the county.

“We’re really looking to get an understanding of the challenges they’re facing, the opportunities we have,” Cash said.

“We want to make sure that our economic development strategies are based off what our actual businesses are experiencing.”

Consulting firm Deloitte LLP will assist the county with the project.

Together they will analyze survey results, identify trends and highlight key challenges and opportunities facing county businesses, staff said.

Cash said the purpose of the project is for the sustainability of Cypress County’s economy into the future.

“We’re taking steps now so that we can see the results of that down the line,” Cash said.

“We really want to make sure that in this present time we’re talking to our businesses that have been here, whether it’s a new business, a startup, or a business that’s been here for 50 years,” she added.

“We want to hear from them and have their feedback as we go into our strategy.”

Reeve Dan Hamilton said Cypress County needs to be investment ready to keep its economy strong into the future.

“This survey is about making sure we understand what our businesses need to grow and thrive,” Hamilton said.

“Their input will help shape a strategy that attracts the right investment and supports a resilient, sustainable economy for Cypress County.”

The survey, which takes about 15 minutes to complete, is underway until June 13.

A county open house to gain additional feedback from businesses will be announced at a later date.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of June once all survey data has been collected and analyzed.
