Over 500 participants registered for 2025 Rattler Run

Apr 24, 2025 | 3:17 PM

Over 500 participants are already registered for the 2025 Rattler Run at Medicine Hat College this Saturday.

Race director Bill Corcoran said he believes it is the longest continuous annual 10 kilometre run in Alberta with the event entering it’s 46th year.

“There’s three distances, there’s a 3k, a 5k, and quite a challenging 10k, so something kind of for everyone,” Corcoran said.

“Starts at 10:30 a.m., we’ll send the 10k runners off first, 5k runners go 10 minutes later, and finally the 3k goes at 10:50 a.m.”

Prize money will be won by the top three overall for both men and women in the five kilometre and 10 kilometre races.

Corcoran said he is happy with the amount of sign ups they have and expect close to 600 by the time registration closes.

The three kilometre race is a flat loop around the college grounds, the five kilometre race also including a run through Kin Coulee, while the 10 kilometre adds Ajax trail.

Corcoran said all ages and abilities will be participating.

“I think we have a one year-old registered, I saw. I’m guessing that the one-year-old will probably be in a stroller,” Corcoran said.

“Last year we had a ninety-year-old woman who did the 3k in a walker, which was really quite awesome.”

Corcoran said there are some good runners competing.

“Chris Yonker, who’s in, he ran with us back in the COVID year. He ran a sub 34 minute 10k a couple weeks ago, so he’s looking good for the 10k,” Corcoran said.

“Last year, another local fellow, Quinn Halldorson, broke 16 minutes on the 5k, which is a really good time, and he’s back and strong this year,” he added.

“In the women’s 10k, we have our two Rattlers alumni, and then Maddie Scrimger, who’s the Rattlers athlete of the year. Becky Ross has got the better of Maddie for two years, but Maddie’s pretty strong this year, so that’ll be a really good race in the 10k.”

Sign up is available online until the end of the day Thursday.
