City of Medicine Hat to share in flood protection money
The City of Medicine Hat will get part of $19 million the Alberta government is investing to protect homes, businesses and infrastructure from drought and flooding.
The cash the city receives will be used to build 300 meters of shoreline protection along the South Saskatchewan River to protect the Medicine Hat Waste Water Treatment plant.
Pat Bohan, the city’s managing director of development and infrastructure, said the investment will help Medicine Hat’s plans to reduce the risk of flood damage at the waste water treatment plant.
“Combining this funding, along with the city’s contributions, will aid in providing shoreline protection, flood risk management, environmental protection and operational safety and sustainability,” Bohan said in a statement.
