The Town of Taber is celebrating 120 years of growth and community this year.

The town was officially incorporated on March 15, 1905, but its history goes back much further.

Indigenous peoples have called the land home for thousands of years, and the area began to take shape in the 1890s when homesteaders decided to settle in Taber.

What started as a coal mining town grew into Canada’s corn capital, located over an hour west of Medicine Hat.

The town is celebrating its birthday on June 30.

Among the festivities will be a free concert on June 30 at Confederation Park. The three headliners for the concert are set to be announced on Friday.

“This celebration is more than just an anniversary—it’s a chance to celebrate our people, our stories, and our shared history,” said Taber Mayor Andrew Prokop.

“For more than 120 years, Taber has been a place of opportunity, family, and resilience. We can’t wait to celebrate our past, cherish our present, and embrace the future together!”

More information on the celebration events is available on the Celebrate Taber page.
