Southeast Alberta home and leisure tradeshow takes place in Medicine Hat

The Medicine Hat Home and Leisure Tradeshow facilitated by the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce is taking place this weekend from Friday to Sunday.

The Chamber of Commerce said that each year, time and resources are invested into creating a quality trade show for the community.

It said it is proud to host not only the longest-running but also the largest trade show in Medicine Hat.

“With thousands of consumers visiting the shows over the course of three days, these trade shows give an incredible opportunity to gain exposure for your business, demonstrate and sell products, and showcase your services,” the Chamber said in a statement.

Chris Kautz, owner of Bert’s Vacuums and EcoExtreme Clean, said that overall, the tradeshow makes a stronger community, because it allows people to be more connected to one another.

“The credit should go to the Chamber,” he said Saturday.

“I think they’ve really taken a serious, hard look at what was needed at these shows over the past few years, and they’ve worked towards growing the show,” he added.

“They’re actually accomplishing what they’ve set out to do.”

Kautz said that the tradeshow is especially important for the businesses that attend, where a lot of traction is lost to online businesses.

Annette Diemert, owner of SafetyNett Training Services, said that the company just opened an office in the city last year, and it’s her first year in attendance.

“I’m a little surprised how often people stop and ask questions,” she said.

“That part of it’s been really good, just getting our name out there and getting a little more exposure.”

SafetyNett provides paramedic staffing for sporting events, concerts, festivals and more.

Dan Haughian, co-owner of CyclePath bicycle shop, said that the company has been attending tradeshows for the past 20 years.

He said he noticed an increase in attendance this year, and general reception from those who attended.

“Both days have been pretty lucrative. But honestly, from what I’ve noticed this year, Friday is usually the slower day, and it was thumping here,” he said.

“From what I’m gonna ascertain, I’m gonna say people are probably gonna be more excited to come to these things,” he added.

“I’m getting lots of really good, good vibes off to everybody.”
