Harrison Meneghin repeats as WHL Goalie of the Week

Jan 27, 2025 | 5:50 PM

For the third time this season Medicine Hat Tigers netminder Harrison Meneghin has been named the WHL’s Goalie of the Week.

Meneghin backstopped the Tigers to a pair of victories to kick off the teams U.S division road trip putting up a 1.50GAA and a 0.941SV%

He is the only goalie to have won the honour multiple times this season.

“Back-to-back, it’s not easy,” said Meneghin.

“I just play and try to win…that’s all I really focus towards,” he added.

The twenty-year-old netminder has been exceptional since returning from injury, putting up a 5-0-0-0 record, alongside a 1.18GAA and a 0.940SV%.

Two of those wins came in thrilling come-from-behind fashion.

“We’re just super hungry…we know we need to win a lot of games.”

Meneghin made a possible save-of-the-year candidate in the third period amidst the Tigers 3-2 comeback win against Spokane Friday night.

“I saw a puck get passed over to the far side, stuck my glove out, and caught it.”

The veteran goaltender has been crucial to the team’s nine-game win streak, along with the development of Jordan Switzer, who started 16 games in Meneghin’s absence.

“He’s been a huge backbone for our team,” said Switzer.

“He’s so poised, he makes those big saves, especially in Spokane, it’s huge,” he added.

Meneghin now boasts the second-best goals-against average in the WHL, only trailing Everett’s Jesse Sanche, who he will play across from Wednesday night.

Wednesday night’s tilt is arguably the biggest game of the WHL season.

The top two seeds in each conference will face off for their lone meeting of the regular season in a potential WHL Finals preview.

“It’s just another game,” Meneghin said regarding the marquee matchup.

“Everyone in the locker room is really excited for it and we’re ready for the challenge.”

First, Medicine Hat (30-15-2-0) takes on the Wenatchee Wild (17-23-3-1) Tuesday night at 7:00, before heading to Everett on Wednesday to take on the Silvertips (34-6-4-3) in one of the most anticipated games of the season.
