A pair of Drumheller residents have been charged with drug trafficking offenses and theft, RCMP said Friday.

RCMP general investigative officers launched a drug trafficking investigation in and around the community of Drumheller, police said.

Police at about 3:35 a.m. Thursday executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 700 block of Third Avenue West.

RCMP searched the residence and located quantities of fentanyl, cocaine, Canadian currency and other drug trafficking evidence, police said.

Two females and one male were arrested at the scene. One of the females were released from custody with no charges.

RCMP continue to investigate this matter and note that additional charges are pending

A 38-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man were both charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The man was also found to be bound by a conditional sentence order and subject to three breach allegations.

The pair were remanded into custody and were scheduled to appear in the Drumheller Alberta Court of Justice on Friday to answer to charges.
