Christmas lights display returns to Park Meadows

Nov 24, 2024 | 7:58 AM

Starting next week, families in Medicine Hat can take a magical walk through the Christmas lights of Park Meadows.

Residents there are all-in on the holiday spirit, decking out the park and walking paths, as well as their own homes — a tradition that dates back decades.

It all starts Dec. 1 and runs until Jan. 5, with the show open 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Cash donations are collected, with 50 per cent going to the Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub and 50 per cent to keep up the displays, organizers say.

Lance Taylor, who took over setting up the park display in 2022, said that year that every corner has something in it.

“I wanted to make sure that when people went to every different place of the park they could see something interesting to bring joy, to bring love, to bring the community together,” he said previously.

This year, Tayler was part of a large group of Park Meadows Estate volunteers that helped with the design of many displays.

The display includes animals like moose, deer and llamas, other seasonal characters like snowmen, angels and elves and a light-up river at the centre.

Corrections: The display starts next week. Clarifications: Lance Taylor made comments in 2022.
