Alberta government publishes 2024 Accessibility Design Guide
Alberta has published a new guide to help architects, construction companies and the public understand what’s needed to make buildings more accessible for those with mobility challenges.
Municipal Affairs Minister Ric McIver says the guide features a number of new building code standards that the government implemented earlier this year.
Buildings are now required to have signage that points the way to barrier-free washrooms, elevators, parking spaces and pathways.
Disability advocate and wheelchair-user Zachary Weeks says the signage requirement will be helpful the government could be doing more.
