The Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub is hosting their Amazing Race for Hunger for a third time this year on Aug. 24.

The organization is looking to raise $75,000 this year, after hitting almost $60,000 last year, and just over $36,000 the first year.

Nineteen teams will be competing and helping raise money for the local food bank.

Brock Hale, a local school teacher, will be returning to compete with his brother Troy on team Hale Storm.

“”Doing the race I’ll say what was was just so neat and we really were set that we needed to come back because we had so much fun last year,” Hale said.

“We did Family Feud Canada and that was a really neat experience, but this was also almost just as neat, if not more neat, especially to be a part of how much of a community event this is.”

Ally DeWolfe is new to the Amazing Race for Hunger this year, having watched it the past few years and wanted to join in on the fun.

The owner of Back Alley Fitness with her husband Colin, they have hosted charity workouts at their gym on Saturday mornings at nine by donations to help raise money, combined with bottle drives and asking for donations.

People can also donate online through Canada Helps.

DeWolfe will be part of team DeWolfe Pack and is hoping to see the community get behind the event.

“I would just like to say that on August 24th, everybody should go check out the Watch Party or the live stream, because there are still opportunities to donate the day of,” DeWolfe said.

“You can pick your favorite teams, or as you’re watching the events go down, you can help out certain teams or you can block certain teams. The whole community interaction aspect on the day of is really, really fun.”

Racing starts Satuday, Aug. 24 at 9 a.m. with the live stream on the Root Cellar’s Facebook page.

Voting for your favourite team is underway on the Root Cellar’s page until Friday, August 23 at 4 p.m. to give one of the teams a game changing advantage.
