The intersection of Third Street Southeast and Fifth Avenue Southeast in downtown Medicine Hat, initially announced to re-open to motorists by 5 p.m. on Thursday, will now open by 8 a.m. on Friday.

The Third Street Southeast downtown utility and surface upgrades project remains on schedule as it nears the next stage in downtown, according to a press release from the City of Medicine Hat.

Traffic on the 400 block of Third Street Southeast, between Fourth and Fifth Avenue Southeast will return to one-way traffic once the intersection has re-opened.

Three of five stages in phase one of the Third Street Southeast downtown utility and surface upgrades project are now complete.

The fourth stage between South Railway Street Southeast and Sixth Avenue Southeast is currently under construction.

Stage five is set to begin next week. An update on the exact start date for this closure will be provided once available.

Crews will close off the intersection of Third Street Souteast and Sixth Avenue Southeast, as well as a portion of the 500 block of Third Street Southeast.

The majority of the 500 block will remain open and will transition to two-way traffic throughout this stage.

The work zone will be fenced off and detours will be in effect. Motorists are asked to obey all posted signage.
