The summer is officially here.
As temperatures heat up, there’s lots going on this weekend from July 5 to 7.
Here is what’s on:

The ninth annual Great Big Paddle takes to the water on Saturday.
It gets underway at 12 p.m. at the Echo Dale boat launch.
Participants will paddle their way down the South Saskatchewan River in kayaks, canoes or other flotation devices.
Bring a floating device and friends and you’re ready to go, organizers say.
Rafts are also available for rent.

Medicine Hat BMX is hosting a free open track day event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Participants are asked to wear long pants and sleeves to cover as much skin as possible and running shoes.
Attendees can bring a full-laced helmet and riding gloves if they have them but they can also be supplied, organizers said.
Participants can bring their own bike or one can be supplied, according to the event page.
The event is taking place at Medicine Hat BMX in the city’s north end.

Historical walking tours continue this weekend.
The tours this year feature character actors for the first time as a way to bring Medicine Hat’s history to life.

The City of Medicine Hat’s Towne Square block parties continue this weekend.
Saturday’s edition of the block party will celebrate art and creativity.
The event runs from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. downtown.
