Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat and area: April 4-6

The theme of the weekend is spring, and the weather looks set to cooperate, too.

Friday feels like a different season with a chilly high of 5 C with a continued chance of flurries. Saturday brings the sun and 13 C and Sunday will have 16 C.

Here is what’s on this weekend and area.

🐅 Tigers go for the win

The Medicine Hat Tigers hope to close out their first playoff series this weekend.

If the Tigers can beat the Swift Current Broncos, they will win their first playoff series win since 2017, Will Bryant reports.

🏒Memorial Hockey Tournament

The Christian Doll Memorial Hockey tournament takes place at the Big Marble Go Centre this Sunday, just a few days before what would have been his 16th birthday.

Christian, an avid hockey player in Medicine Hat, passed away on July 26, 2024 at the age of 15.

Four teams comprised of his peers, with mostly 2009 born players will compete in the tournament that runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

There will be several short games played to determine a winner.

Commemorative jerseys will be worn, and a raffle on site.

The public is encourage to come watch.

🌱 Spring nature walks

Saturday, Sunday

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is hosting a pair of nature walks over the weekend.

The Signs of Spring walk, running from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m on Saturday, promises to be “a delight” for Medicine Hat’s bird lovers. It will include listening for returning migratory birds, budding trees and emerging insects, organizers say.

The program is hosting a family-friendly nature walk from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday to mark World Health Day.

Both walks are free to attend and do not require registration.

📚 Library book sale

The Friends of the Medicine Hat Public Library book sale is making a return.

The spring book sale is on from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the library downtown.

Gently-used fiction and non-fiction books for all ages, DVDs, CDs, magazines andboard games will be accepted for sale, organizers said.

Textbooks, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, cassettes, vinyl records and items more than 15 years old will not be accepted

Everything sold at the book sale comes from donations by the public and discarded materials from the library’s collection.

🛍 Bees and Blossoms market

Friday, Saturday

Medalta Potteries in the Historic Clay District is hosting the Bees and Blossoms Second Annual Spring Market Friday and Saturday.

Organizers say that, similar to the Heritage Christmas Market, this market aims to highlight the talents and artisans of the Medicine Hat area but with a spring twist.

It runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Admission is free.

📽 Top Gun at Monarch

Friday

Tom Cruise classic Top Gun is playing at the downtown Monarch Theatre.

The movie also features Val Kimler, who died age 65 this week.

Entry is $5 cash and any two concession items are $5.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at 8 p.m.
