A New Water Park – With a Twist!

Jun 13, 2024 | 11:27 AM

Once upon a time, Medicine Hat had a hillside water park, but in the early 2000’s, it closed. Now, as June 15th approaches, a new water park is opening – Golden Atlantis Aqua Park!

Golden Atlantis Aqua Park is located in Golden Sheaf Park and might be a little different than what you have seen before. The entire aqua park is made up of 6,000 square feet of giant, inflatable slides, obstacles and jumps – not to mention, it floats right in the middle of the lake! With closures and limited water usage this summer, Golden Atlantis Aqua Park is THE place to be.

This new attraction has really been a labour of love, nine and a half months in the making, for the Routledge family – Ken, Amanda, Joanne and Daniel – who own and operate the aqua park. It started when the family was visiting Kenora, Ontario, and went to an inflatable water park there.

“We saw one in Kenora… and my brother and nieces went on it,” Amanda explained. “They loved it.”

And that was it! Ken, Amanda and Joanne looked into bringing this to Medicine Hat. All of their inflatable equipment is from the number one manufacturer, located in Germany. While the entire process was arduous, they look forward to their grand opening on June 15th!

Leading up to the official launch, the Routledge family reflected on their favourite part of the new venture thus far. Getting to know the people involved, seeing the excitement and intrigue on their faces as equipment and sea-cans arrived has been a joy.

“I think what set it off was the tradeshow we did,” Ken said. If you were at the Southeast Alberta Home & Leisure Tradeshow this past Spring, you may have seen the Golden Atlantis Aqua Park booth, teasing at the new park with information and photos of what it would look like.

Joanne described it as “an hour of non-stop running” and the said the exercise aspect of the park will be fantastic. Admission for Golden Atlantis Aqua Park is $17 for one hour on the water, for ages 10 and up, $12 for ages 5 to 9. Half day passes are available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the afternoon. All children aged 5 to 9 need to be accompanied by a person 16 or older. Attendees will be given a brief on safety as well. Life jackets are provided to all attendees. All lifeguards are waterfront trained and certified to ensure a safe and fun time for everyone.

For their grand opening, they are planning a barbecue with proceeds going to HALO. Following the grand opening on June 15th, they will have special pricing that Sunday on Father’s Day for dads visiting the aqua park!

Outside of the grand opening, their hours will be 11:00a.m. to 7:00p.m., but do to the nature of the aqua park, openings will be dependent on the weather and water temperature. You can follow them on Facebook to get all the updates on the park!
