Up to 25 cm of snow forecast in southwestern Alberta, Medicine Hat spared

Environment Canada is calling for a brief blast of snow this week.

It has issued special weather statements for several areas in southwestern Alberta, including Cardston, Waterton Lakes National Park, Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass, and Claresholm.

Medicine Hat is likely to be spared but, if it does snow in the city, it would be on Friday, according to Environment Canada.

Snow is expected to begin Tuesday evening. By Thursday morning, anywhere between 10 and 25 centimetres of snow could fall.

Banff National Park is under a snowfall warning.

That area is expecting to receive 10 to 20 cm of snow, although the snowfall itself is anticipated to be heavier.

The daily high temperatures in the region are forecast to be above zero every day this week, so any snow that falls is unlikely to stick around for very long.

More information on weather alerts can be found on the Environment Canada website.
