The third bi-annual Cypress County Connections Luncheon allowed businesses, organizations and entrepreneurs to network and collaborate on Friday.

With over 70 people in attendance at the event was organizer and economic development officer with Cypress County Beth Cash was happy with the turnout.

“It was really well-received. We have a full room, which is awesome,” Cash said.

“It just shows that businesses and entrepreneurs are wanting to connect and meet each other. And that’s what this event is all about.”

Amy Zuk-Olsen, owner of Safety Buzz Campus in Dunmore has attended each event, which has proved beneficial to her company.

“I would say, picked up two, three clients simply from coming to these networking events,” Zuk-Olsen said.

“Clients that we, you know, maybe we’ve talked to in passing, but really got an opportunity through the networking exercises to learn more about their businesses, and vice versa, and to understand some of the services that we’re able to offer.”

Zuk-Olsen appreciated the ability to attend a networking event in Dunmore, finding most of these type of events she attends in Medicine Hat.

“I think just if you haven’t been out to one, come. You’re going to meet somebody that you don’t know already,” Zuk-Olsen said.

Kristi Liboiron, a program coordinator with Careers at the Provincial Ag said they work with high school students to get them into skilled internship opportunities.

“It’s very handy. You can come in and talk to 30 different businesses. Quite often we go hauling and knocking on doors, but this way we can reach a lot of employers in a short period of time,” Liboiron said.

Donna Kirchner, also a program coordinator with Careers at the Provincial Ag said it’s the second time she has been able to attend the event.

“”We came last year and the benefits were so great, when we saw this coming up, we decided it was definitely something we wanted to do,” Kirchner said.

“One of the really beneficial pieces is it allowed us to connect with some of the smaller businesses in the county that we weren’t aware of prior to that,” she added.

“We were able to find some internships for some of our high school students and some of the smaller rural businesses, which is win-win for the students and for the businesses.”
