The Medicine Hat Public School Division on Wednesday identified longtime employee Tracey Hensel as its acting replacement for outgoing superintendent Mark Davidson.

Hensel has worked at the division for 36 years, most recently as associate superintendent of student services.

Current superintendent Davidson is leaving the role on June 30 for a new position in British Columbia and Hensel will start on July 1 as the summer begins.

“Her expertise in creating safe and inclusive learning environments, coupled with her success in implementing educational programs, demonstrates a deep commitment to student success,” the school board said in a news release.

“She is a visionary leader who fosters collaboration within our division and with community partners through a data driven and effective approach to decision making.”

The school division’s board of trustees still need to determine a timeline for Davidson’s permanent replacement, officials said.

This is a developing story. More details to follow.
