New Westminster schools has announced that Davidson will become its new superintendent as of July 8.

Davidson said he’s confident in the team he’s leaving behind.

“We have a central office team, system level leadership, school leaders, teachers, support staff who are amazingly focused on students,” he told CHAT News on Friday.

“These are great who people who love kids and they’re going to do great stuff here,” he added, saying he’s never worked with anyone better.

An acting superintendent will be named next week and the board of trustees will begin the search for Davidson’s replacement right away, the school division said.

Davidson is looking forward to a new challenge.

“I’m really excited about where I’m moving to and the next thing I’m going to do,” Davidson said.

Davidson is leaving the province after working in Alberta’s education sector for 32 years.

“I’m very pleased and happy and proud of the teams I’ve been a part of and the things that I’ve done in education in Alberta.”
