Here’s a group known as the “Demoninators” In Medicine Hat.

But don’t let the name fool you – they’re not superheros or wrestling stars, they’re a squad of mathletes.

Eagle Butte High school sent two mathletes teams to the Totem Torus Math competition in Edmonton, the Denominators and the Casual Mathletes.

Each team had to do individual testing of 10 questions in 45 minutes.

Then there was a team quiz with 25 questions, 45 minutes and no calculators.

The difficulty level of both tests ranged from Grades 7 to 12.

“I find math pretty fun and definitely interesting to learn. To bring a team there and work together, we had a lot of laughs, even though it was kind of a competitive environment sometimes,” said Grade 12 student Emersyn Baugh.

Student Arabella Allen added: “I don’t necessarily enjoy taking tests, but the ones that we were doing were kind of fun because they were challenging us and they weren’t just school to get a mark.”

“It didn’t matter what we did on them, it was just for the fun and to see how well we could do.”

Every student who went did it on their own time and money and simply for the love of math.

The Denominators have not yet received a ranking regarding how they performed at the competition.
