Applications open Monday for a pair of new incentives aimed at encouraging development, redevelopment and stimulating local investments in Medicine Hat.

The City Centre Vibrancy and the Housing Infill and Redevelopment incentives will leverage Medicine Hat’s existing land and infrastructure to encourage high-density housing and enhance vibrancy of the city centre area.

Selena McLean-Moore, director of Medicine Hat Economic Development, said the incentives will help with generating jobs and places to live.

“By offering these incentives, we aim to not only generate jobs but also to foster diversified housing development, preparing our community for future investment opportunity,” McLean-Moore said in a statement Friday.

The city’s economic development office, formerly known as “Invest Medicine Hat”, had to be rebuilt after several senior staff departures in 2022.

City Manager Ann Mitchell was granted authority by council to relaunch the department and develop an economic development plan. McLean-Moore was hired into the director role in July 2023.
