The Medicine Hat College Rattlers performed well at this weekends ACAC track and field championships in Edmonton.

The men’s team saw their overall ranking improve one spot, finishing fourth overall, while the woman hit the podium, finishing third overall.

Head coach Bill Corcoran said that when another star athlete went down with an injury, Madison Scrimger stepped up.

“Maddy this year really was asked to step up,” Corcoran said.

“She had to run three races and two relays, which is a lot considering the three races were also the three longest races, which are 1000 [meter], a 1500 [meter] and a 2000 [meter],” he said.

“It was really nice to see her step up and get four medals.”

Three athletes and one relay team set new school records.

Scrimger dominated, winning two silvers and two bronzes in individual and relay running.

She said that the accolades were great, but she was happied to see her teammates succeed.

“I’m just really proud of my team and they should all be proud of themselves too. I’m really proud of all my friends on other teams,” Scrimger said.

“I know they say ‘Oh, I didn’t do that good’. I’m like ‘You did so good, you just need to see it from an outside perspective and be proud of what you achieved this weekend.'”

Scrimger said that she plans to continue her training this summer, preparing for next season, the Rattler Run and gearing up for competing at the national level.
