This is week-in-review for March 10-16, a look back at the top stories that shaped Medicine Hat over the last seven days.

🔥 Silage fire

CHAT News followed the story of a silage fire that took place outside Medicine Hat on March 11.

It took over 65 firefighters from 13 fire stations responding to get the fire safety extinguished.

The temperature inside the silage pit was so hot that it led to a spontaneous combustion, causing it to catch fire.

🤝 Smith meets Trudeau

Premier Danielle Smith met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on March 13.

Smith, who is also the Brooks-Medicine Hat MLA, says Alberta is working closely with the federal government where it can but also emphasized her concerns over the federal carbon tax program and the current environment minister.

The premier said she would be “happy to have a reset in our relationship on that front” if the current federal environment minister Steven Guilbeault was removed from the role by Trudeau.

🐯 Tigers fight for first

Hoping to finish the regular season on a high-note, the Tigers’ last four games before post season have been described as must-wins.

Head coach Desjarins attributes recent losses to strong moves made by other teams before the trade deadline in January.

Since then, the Tigers’ win percentage has dropped to 40 per cent, down from their previous 64 per cent before the deadline.

They went into a game Friday night versus Swift Current second-place in the central division.
